The Province of Cebu officially celebrates its 456th founding anniversary today, 4 August 2025, with Governor Pamela Baricuatro leading the commemorative activities.
Ahead of the main event, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) launched a wellness program on 1 August for thousands of Capitol employees. On August 2, three pre-surgical operation screenings were conducted in Danao City, Bogo City, and the town of Balamban.
Medical and major surgical operations are scheduled across Cebu Provincial Hospitals in various locations: Danao (August 16–17), Bogo (9-10 August), Carcar (30-31 August), Balamban (23-24 August), and the Bantayan District Hospital (15-16 August). Additional operations will also be held in the island towns of Poro and Pilar in Camotes (7-8 August).
The major surgical procedures to be conducted include thyroid surgery, breast surgery, hernia repair (for both children and adults), gastrostomy, peri-anal abscess surgery, gallbladder surgery, anal fistula surgery, hemorrhoidectomy, orthopedic surgery, parotid surgery, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy for cholelithiasis. Minor operations will include cyst excision. Dental, optometry, ophthalmology services, and HIV screening will also be available.
From 4 to 8 August, the Capitol grounds will host the “Tabo sa Kapitolyo,” an agri-fishery trade fair. Meanwhile, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is holding the Agri’Konek Food Summit 2025 on August 4 and 5, touted as the largest gathering of agri-food innovators, farmers, MSMEs, policymakers, and industry leaders in the Visayas.
At 7 AM today, Governor Baricuatro, Vice Governor Glenn Soco, Cebu Representatives, Provincial Board Members, city and municipal mayors and vice mayors, national agency officials, Capitol department heads, and the governor’s consultants gathered for the flag-raising ceremony, followed by the ribbon cutting of the Tabo sa Kapitolyo 2025.
The provincial government has allocated P25 million for the month-long celebration of Cebu’s founding anniversary.
