Russel Je Ricaforte broke the 34-year-old men’s discus Philippine record at the PATAFA weekly relays on Saturday at the Philsports complex in Pasig City.

The Ateneo de Manila University athletics team captain tallied 54.14 meters to win the gold medal.

Ricaforte erased the previous record of 52.10m set by Fidel Repizo at the 1991 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Manila.

National team member Ed Deliña settled for the silver after tallying 48.59m while Dominic Woodward of National University took the bronze after throwing 40.81m.

The Blue Eagles’ athletics team congratulated Ricaforte for his latest milestone.

“A historic milestone for Philippine athletics — and a proud moment for Ateneo!” the team posted.

Ricaforte previously set a new University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) men’s discus record last December after 47.80m at the New Clark City Stadium in Tarlac.

The previous UAAP record was at 47.28m set by Deliña in 2023.
