The Philippine national men’s baseball team hammered Singapore twice in a series of friendly games at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman last Saturday.
The Nationals started the day with a 12-0 win over the Singaporeans before delivering a 19-0 hammering in the afternoon game.
The Filipinos are using these games as part of their preparation for the Asian Baseball Championship from 22 to 29 September and the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand from 9 to 20 December.
Philippine Amateur Baseball Association president Rodolfo Tingzon Jr. told DAILY TRIBUNE the big margins produced by the Filipino batters are the result of their hunger for more international games.
“The boys are hungry and they want to play more games. They’re really inspired,” Tingzon said. “They want to show their skills. We really need to give them international exposure like this.”
“We have to find ways for them to show their skills.”
The Filipinos will play one more game against Singapore on Sunday at 7 a.m. to wrap up their friendly series.
