Gilas blasts Jordan in friendly

Gilas Pilipinas displayed its readiness following a 75-61 demolition of Jordan in its last friendly match before plunging into action in the 33rd FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

After posting an 11-point lead at the break, the Filipinos never looked back as Scottie Thompson, Calvin Oftana, Dwight Ramos, and Kevin Quiambao spearheaded a sizzling fourth-quarter rally to seal the victory at the Al Ahli Sports Club.

It was the second straight win of the national squad, which is looking to regain the glory in the prestigious continental event that it last ruled in 1985.

In their first tune-up match, the Filipinos had to scramble early as they fell behind by 21 before restoring order and securing a 103-98 win over the Macau Black Bears at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last week.

"Well, I'm just looking for a measurement of where we are in terms of preparedness. So I think that is really the key, to see how prepared we are," Gilas coach Tim Cone said.

"I don't think we're there yet, but I think these games will go a long way in helping us where we want to get to."

Gilas will tip off its Asia Cup campaign when it battles Chinese Taipei on Tuesday.
