Kris Aquino coined ‘Gideonized’ — Gideon Hermosa

A governor’s wedding last year made headlines — not only because he married someone more than half his age — but also because his wedding was reportedly “Gideonized.”

According to renowned events designer Gideon Hermosa, the word “Gideonized” that has been used to describe his works originally came from “Queen of All Media” Kris Aquino.

“It was Kris Aquino days sa Kris TV. Kumbaga, parang na-discover ako ng team ni Kris… They invited me to set design one episode, nagustuhan n’ya (It’s like Kris’ team discovered me… They invited me to set design one episode and she liked it),” Gideon answered DAILY TRIBUNE’s query in a pocket interview with the press recently for his 15th anniversary gala in Manila Marriott Hotel.

“So every time na nag-seset-design ako, sinasabi n’ya, ‘yung set natin parang na-gi-Gideonize, meaning, nag-tratransform every time (So every time I do a set design for Kris, she would say that their set is like ‘Gideonized, meaning, it transforms).”

Hermosa recalled that Kris invented “Gideonized” around 10 to 12 years ago, but Aquino was not his first celebrity client.

Hermosa cherishes the journey that brought him to where he stands today — humble beginnings and hard work that inspired him to persevere and perfect his craft. Eager to help others do the same, it has become a passion for him to support his peers grow into well-rounded individuals.

“Locally, definitely may laban tayo (we can compete) with the global market,” he affirmed.

“Filipinos are very talented! Ang goal ko naman from the very beginning is to elevate the industry talaga (My goal since the beginning is to elevate the industry). Kaya nga (That is why) we’re trying to bring trends worldwide dito sa (here in the) Philippines. And then, s’yempre (of course) eventually, create trends that will go global.”
