Flooding submerges Metro Manila roads

Heavy rains from the southwest monsoon triggered widespread flooding across Metro Manila and nearby areas early Monday, submerging roads and rendering several routes impassable to vehicles, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

As of 6:40 a.m., the MMDA reported that parts of España Boulevard in Manila, including intersections with Lacson and Antipolo streets, were knee-deep in floodwaters, making them impassable to light vehicles. Gutter-deep floods were also observed along Taft Avenue, Rizal Avenue, and Roxas Boulevard, but those roads remained passable to all types of vehicles.

In Quezon City, flooding along G. Araneta Avenue — particularly at E. Rodriguez, Victory Avenue, and Kaliraya Road — reached waist to chest deep, making them not passable to any vehicles.

Valenzuela City was among the hardest-hit areas, with floodwaters reaching chest-deep in Brgy. Marulas and waist-deep in Dalandanan and Malanday. Portions of MacArthur Highway in Marulas were also submerged.

The MMDA also reported waist-deep flooding in Parañaque, particularly along Dr. A. Santos Avenue in Green Heights and near SM Sucat in Brgy. San Dionisio, rendering those roads impassable.

Other areas affected include:

• Las Piñas: Knee-deep flooding along Alabang-Zapote Road and Zapote Junction, not passable to light vehicles

• Makati: Half knee-deep water reported at Osmeña and Emilia streets

• Caloocan: Knee-deep flooding at the C3–NLEX Connector

• Marikina: Overflow from the Marikina River at Major Dizon, not passable to any vehicles

• Pasay: Gutter-deep flooding along EDSA Heritage and Roxas Boulevard, but still passable

• Mandaluyong: Half knee-deep flooding in the EDSA Shaw tunnel

• Muntinlupa: Half tire-deep flooding along National Road near City Hall in Brgy. Putatan
