Janus to Awra: 'You’re doing too much'

Jefferson Fernando

Actor Janus del Prado stirred intense discussion online this week after posting an open letter directed at fellow actor and online personality Awra Briguela. In the lengthy and unfiltered message, Janus criticized Awra’s recent public behavior, warning that it may be causing more harm than good—not just to Awra’s own image, but to the wider LGBTQIA+ community.

“Awra, you are doing too much to the point that you are hurting the gay community,” Janus began. “People are starting to turn against the entire gay community because of this kind of entitlement.”

Del Prado’s letter, which has since gone viral across social media platforms, expressed frustration over what he perceives as an overreach in asserting one’s gender identity and personal beliefs. He argued that certain forms of behavior, particularly those he labeled as “entitled,” could overshadow and invalidate the voices and experiences of both the gay community and biological women.

He also took aim at what he calls the influence of “Western ideologies” such as gender-neutral pronouns and non-binary identities, suggesting that their unchecked proliferation has led to division and confusion—even citing examples from education, entertainment, and sports sectors abroad.

“If you want to call yourself a ‘She’ or a ‘Her,’ then go, live and enjoy your life the way you want to. No one’s stopping you,” he wrote. “Just don’t expect and force everyone else to play along.”

The actor clarified that his issue wasn’t with individual identity, but with what he believes is the imposition of certain beliefs on the broader public. He urged others in the gay community to speak up when a member is, in his words, “out of line.”

“Don’t be an enabler just because they are a part of your group,” he added. “It will only hurt the gay community and what you stand for.”

The post quickly gained traction, drawing a wave of both support and criticism. Some netizens praised Janus for voicing what they saw as “unspoken truths,” while others condemned the statement as insensitive, divisive, and misinformed. LGBTQIA+ advocates also expressed concern, warning that generalizations like these risk undermining years of progress toward inclusivity and understanding.

As of this writing, Awra Briguela has yet to issue a public response.

Janus del Prado, known for his roles in both comedy and drama, has never shied away from voicing strong opinions online. But this latest commentary marks one of his most controversial stances to date, igniting ongoing debate on social media about gender expression, personal accountability, and the internal dynamics within the LGBTQIA+ community.
