Blu Girls dominate Indians,15-0

Ivan Suing

The national women’s softball team needed only three innings to beat India, 15-0, in the Women’s Softball Asia Cup last Wednesday in Xi’an, China.

The Blu Girls showed no mercy in pulling off the impressive win that put them in third place with a 3-1 win-loss record. More than that, it gave the Filipinas a chance to redeem themselves from a 1-9 loss to reigning champion Japan last Tuesday.

Roma Jane Cruz started the onslaught as she hit an early home run that sent her and Mylia Isabel Perez back to home plate for a 2-0 lead.

The Philippines scored four more points in the second inning, thanks to runs from Charlotte Sales, Mary Joy Maguad, Angelu Gabriel, and Jaycel Roldan to make it a 6-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Blu Girls delivered the final blows to the Indians with nine runs courtesy of Cruz, Sales, Maguad, Roldan, Perez, Callie Christian, Alaiza Talisik, and Sydney Vitangcol.

The Blu Girls are competing against Malaysia at press time to bolster their bid to reach the final.

Only the top two teams will advance to the gold medal match and earn a slot for the 2026 Women’s Softball World Cup. On the other hand, the No. 3 and No. 4 squads will collide in the bronze medal match.

The eight best teams in the tournament will automatically qualify for the 20th Asian Games in Japan from 19 September to 4 October 2026.
