Aussie dribblers slam Gilas Women

Gilas Pilipinas Women suffered a lopsided 39-115 loss to Australia to open its campaign in the FIBA Women's Asia Cup at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in Shenzhen, China on Sunday.

The Australians imposed their dominance over the young Filipinas, taking a 31-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Australia tower over the Philippines as it  dominated the boards, 57-21, and scored 21 second chance points.

Miela Goodchild led the Aussies with 19 points while Sara Blicavs dropped 17 points and six rebounds.

Vanessa de Jesus led Gilas Women with nine points as no player from the squad reached double digits.

Meanwhile, veteran Jack Animam was limited to two points with a disappointing 1-of-11 shooting clip.

The Philippines will try its luck when it faces 2023 Asia Cup finalists Japan on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
