The Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Friday confirmed the receipt of the notice issued by the Supreme Court regarding the impeachment complaint filed against Vice Preisdent Sara Duterte.
The OVP said it received the notice at about 11 a.m. Friday, 11 July.
The Supreme Court (SC) has required the Senate and the House of Representatives to comment and submit information regarding the impeachment trial of the Vice President.
The SC En Banc, in a notice dated 8 July, consolidated the petition filed by Duterte against the validity and constitutionality of the fourth impeachment complaint against her, including the petition filed by lawyer Israelito Torreon and others seeking to declare the articles of impeachment null and void.
The House was required to submit information regarding the status of the first three impeachment complaints filed against the Vice President.
The SC also asked the House of Representatives to provide information on exact dates these were endorsed, and whether the secretary general possesses discretion on when to transmit these to the speaker of the House of Representatives.
In December 2024, three impeachment complaints were filed against Duterte in connection with the alleged misuse of confidential funds of the OVP and the Department of Education, which she concurrently heads.
But it was the fourth impeachment complaint that was endorsed by majority of the congressmen, and was later transmitted to the Senate.
