The Global Compact Network Philippines (GCNP), United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF) will launch today the Ocean Centres Philippines (OCP), one of the global platforms aiming to develop local solutions to improve safety and sustainability across ocean sectors like shipping, fisheries and offshore renewables.
The 10 a.m. OCP launch at AIM Aboitiz Tech Space in Makati City will see leaders from ocean industries and government speak about OCP, a partnership initiative of UNGC’s Ocean Stewardship Coalition (as a convener of key stakeholders in ocean industries) and the LRF, a global safety charity.
Maritime Industry Authority administrator Sonia Malaluan is the keynote speaker during the event. GCNP, UNGC, LRF officials and representatives of the PTC Group, ICTSI, Sinaya Seafood, BPI, EnergiesPH and Lebas Fisherfolk Association will also speak.
OCP is one of seven in the world. The others are in Brazil, Ghana, Kenya, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, hosted by a UN Global Compact Country Network like the GCNP and led by a country lead, who is responsible for coordinating all activities, such as identifying and inviting national stakeholders to join the Ocean Centres, and leading the organization of workshops, working groups, conferences, webinars and more.
