A majority of Filipinos are aware of the fourth impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte, but public opinion remains divided, according to a recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
Conducted from 25 to 29 June, the poll found that 59 percent of adult respondents were aware of the impeachment complaint prior to the interview, while 41 percent learned about it during the survey.
Asked if they supported the complaint, 32 percent agreed, 42 percent disagreed, and 18 percent were undecided — yielding a net agreement score of –10. Another 7 percent said they lacked sufficient knowledge to give an opinion.
Meanwhile, 44 percent of the respondents believe the Senate is “deliberately delaying” Duterte’s impeachment trial. Only 25 percent disagreed, while 22 percent were undecided. This translated to a net belief score of +19.
The complaint cited Duterte’s alleged misuse of confidential funds, her failure to cooperate with investigations, unreported wealth, involvement in extrajudicial killings during her term as Davao City mayor, and controversial travel during typhoon “Carina.”
It also mentioned her alleged failure to condemn China’s aggression in the West Philippine Sea and threats made against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The House approved the complaint on 5 February, with 215 of 306 members signing it before it was transmitted to the Senate.
Awareness was highest in Metro Manila (68 percent), followed by the Visayas (64 percent), Balance Luzon (57 percent), and Mindanao (52 percent). Support was strongest in Metro Manila (+12 net agreement), while opposition peaked in Mindanao (–52).
The SWS surveyed 1,200 adults equally distributed across the country. The poll was non-commissioned and conducted as a public service.
