Koreans demolish Gilas Women

South Korea dealt Gilas Pilipinas Women its second defeat Friday via an 80-55 demolition in the 44th William Jones Cup at the Taipei Peace Basketball Stadium in Taiwan.

Isaem Choi waxed hot for the Koreans with 23 points while Jihyun Park dropped 17 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals as they improved to second place with a 2-1 win-loss record.

The Koreans led 26-12 in the first quarter and never looked back to remain in charge until the final buzzer.

South Korea showcased its ball movement after posting 22 assists compared to the Philippines’ eight.

The Koreans also drained 12 triples as well as producing 13 steals in the match.

Sumayah Sugapong led Gilas Women with 16 points as they sank to fifth place with a 1-2 slate.

Host Chinese-Taipei beat Gilas in their first outing and bounced back against Thailand.

The Philippines will try to get back into the win column as they face Japan on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the same venue.

Gilas Women are using this competition to prepare for the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup in Shenzhen, China from 13 to 20 July.
