Subic Bay Freeport — Two of the Philippine Fleet’s Del Pilar-class patrol vessels welcomed new commanding officers during a Change of Command and Graduation Ceremony held Monday at Quay 7 of Naval Operating Base-Subic in Zambales.
Cdr. Johanns Cruzada and Cdr. Kim Jon Acoba officially took command of the BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS16) and BRP Andres Bonifacio (PS17), respectively. Cruzada succeeded Capt. Philip Plaza, while Acoba took over from Capt. Renante Del Prado.
The Philippine Fleet awarded both Cruzada and Acoba the “Joseph Conrad” Plaque, conferred by Philippine Fleet Commander Rear Adm. Joe Anthony Orbe, in recognition of their readiness and capability to lead at sea.
Del Prado and Cruzada were also honored with the Command-at-Sea Plaque, acknowledging their successful leadership during their previous commands aboard various naval vessels.
In his address, Rear Adm. Orbe encouraged Acoba to “keep the morale and welfare of your men at the highest level.” He also expressed full confidence in Plaza’s future roles, citing his “potential, skills, discipline, and dedication.”
Orbe further praised the outgoing commanders, saying, “Years after today is proof that the Philippine Fleet was right in placing its confidence in you. You are a product of many individuals—former commanding officers, naval task force commanders, your colleagues—and, most importantly, a product of God’s blessings and protection.”
The leadership transition underscores the Philippine Fleet’s commitment to excellence in modern naval operations and its role in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests.
