Batangas 1st District Representative Leandro Legarda Leviste on Wednesday underscored the importance of a proposed P1,000 monthly allowance for students.
"It's very simple. We want all students in the Philippines, from kindergarten to college, to receive a monthly allowance of P1,000 to help with their expenses for transportation, food, technology, and school supplies," Leviste said in an interview.
He said that if implemented, an estimated 30 million students would benefit from the measure.
Leviste explained that the government can borrow money to fund education initiatives, as long as public funds are not wasted.
House Bill No. 27 seeks to provide a P1,000 monthly allowance to every Filipino student, from kindergarten to college, regardless of socioeconomic status.
For Leviste, funding educational needs is a worthwhile investment in the country’s future.
