An 18-year-old boy died within the premises of the Parish Church of San Francisco de Asis in Naga City on 29 June, the Archdiocese of Caceres announced on Tuesday, 1 July.

In a statement, Archdiocese of Caceres Chancellor Rev. Fr. Darius Romualdo mourned the death of the boy and extended heartfelt prayers to his family, as well as to all parishioners affected by the tragic event.

"In these moments of sorrow and uncertainty, the Church offers not judgment, but the hope of Christ's mercy, who came to bind up the wounded and heal the brokenhearted," Romualdo said.

He added that the parish will remain closed until Wednesday, 2 July, to allow for a period of prayerful mourning and reparation. During this time, public liturgical celebrations will be suspended.

Romualdo said they are also collaborating closely with authorities.

Recognizing the emotional toll the incident has caused, Romualdo said the archdiocese is making available the services of licensed psychologists and trained pastoral counselors to provide debriefing, trauma support, and spiritual accompaniment to the immediate family of the deceased, as well as to parishioners who witnessed or were affected by the incident. Similar support will also be extended to the clergy, staff, and volunteers.

"We pray for the eternal repose of the soul of the deceased. We pray that deep psychological suffering will not lead to hopelessness. Let us give the deceased's family and loved ones the privacy they need at this difficult time," Romualdo said.

"We ask for prudence and sobriety, especially on social media," he added.

The priest also urged those experiencing distress to seek help from a priest, a counselor, or a trusted friend.
