The stage is set, the anticipation is high, and the spotlight once again shines on Philippine cinema as the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) announces the official nominees for the 8th EDDYS (Entertainment Editors’ Choice) today, 1 July, at 1 PM, live from the vibrant Rampa Drag Club in Quezon City.
Celebrating the best in film for 2024, the EDDYS continues to champion both artistry and impact in Philippine cinema. The awards will recognize achievements across 14 categories, encompassing both acting and technical excellence. Among the most awaited are the coveted honors for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress, Best Actor, and the supporting performance categories.
Joining the announcement are Max Eigenmann, the 6th EDDYS Best Actress, and RS Francisco, this year’s Isah V. Red Awardee, alongside officers and members of SPEEd — the country’s leading alliance of entertainment editors from broadsheets and tabloids.
Ahead of the nominations, SPEEd has already revealed a slate of special awardees, underscoring its commitment to honoring cinematic excellence, industry stewardship, and humanitarian contributions.

Nathan Studios, led by Judy Ann Santos and Ryan Agoncillo, earns the title of Rising Producer of the Year

The Isah V. Red Award, given to individuals who uplift and serve fellow Filipinos, will be presented to actor-entrepreneur-philanthropist RS Francisco
A major highlight of the event will be the tribute to six Movie Icons whose contributions have left an indelible mark on Philippine cinema: Laurice Guillen, Odette Khan, Perla Bautista, Pen Medina, and the beloved duo Rosemarie Gil and Eddie Mesa.
Also returning is the EDDYS Box Office Heroes segment — now in its second year — which honors stars and creatives who continue to reignite local moviegoing culture.
The 8th EDDYS Awards Night will be held on 20 July 2025, at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Newport World Resorts, Pasay City. A delayed telecast will air on Kapamilya Channel and Jeepney TV, with global streaming via iWantTFC on 27 July.
Produced by Brightlight Entertainment under Pat-P Daza, with acclaimed actor-director Eric Quizon once again at the helm, the event is presented by Play Time, in cooperation with Newport World Resorts and ABS-CBN.
Under the leadership of SPEEd President Salve Asis of Pilipino Star Ngayon and Pang Masa, the EDDYS remains a vital platform for elevating Philippine cinema — not just as entertainment, but as art and advocacy.
