Depleted Choco Mucho showed great resolve after recovering from a second set meltdown to turn back Galeries Tower, 25-19, 13-25, 25-22, 25-20, for a winning start in Pool A of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour Saturday at the Batangas City Sports Complex.
Isa Molde took over on the offensive end in the absence of scoring leader Sisi Rondina (national team duty) and with Dindin Santiago-Manabat sitting out the game as she finished with 20 points for the Flying Titans.
The wing spiker hammered 19 attack points and added 12 excellent receptions for the Choco Mucho, which also played sans Alas Pilipinas members setter Mars Alba and middle blocker Maddie Madayag.
Skipper Des Cheng scored 12 of her 13 points on kills while tallying 11 digs and five excellent receptions. Rookies Kylene Villegas and Ayesha Juegos announced their arrival with seven markers each off the bench for the Flying Titans, who pulled off the win despite getting pummeled in the second set and throwing away 25 points off errors.
Head coach Dante Alinsunurin praised the veteran wing duo of Molde and Cheng for stepping up and providing the leadership to steady Choco Mucho amid the challenge thrown by Galeries Tower.
“They know our expectations in them. They know that we’ll be relying on them each game. I have faith in them,” Alinsunurin said.
