Finding power: Maris Racal in Incognito

For Maris Racal, stepping into the role of secret agent Gabriela “Gab” Rivera in Incognito was more than just a career milestone—it was a personal transformation.

From her early days as the charming and candid housemate in Pinoy Big Brotherback in 2014, Maris has grown into one of the most versatile actresses of her generation. But it wasn’t until Incognito, Star Creatives’ high-octane action series, that she truly pushed beyond the limits of what she thought she was capable of.

“This was the project that took me farthest out of my comfort zone,” Maris admitted during the Incognito: Final Mission finale press conference held on June 25 in Quezon City. “It’s my first time doing something action-heavy, and honestly, I had moments of doubt. I kept asking myself—can I really be convincing in a role like this?”

Portraying a fierce, gun-wielding, no-nonsense operative wasn’t a natural fit at first glance, especially for someone known for her dainty frame and girl-next-door roles. But what she lacked in physical stature, she made up for in grit, preparation, and a deep respect for the role she had been entrusted with.

“It was the training that changed everything,” she said. “Meeting our director, working with the stunt choreographers, going through the drills with military consultants—all of that shaped me into Gab Rivera. They didn’t just teach me how to move; they taught me how to think and feel like her.”

As the presscon wore on, Maris’s gratitude turned emotional as she reflected on the six-month journey behind the scenes. With tears welling in her eyes, she acknowledged the unsung heroes of the production.

“I looked at our cameramen during the presscon and just wanted to say thank you. They made me feel strong. People see us on screen looking tough, but the real strength came from everyone behind the scenes—the crew, our stunt team, the writers, our business unit head, the director, the promo team. Studio 360, especially, was incredible. Their energy, their discipline, their passion—they lifted me up every single day.”

Despite the long days and the pressure to deliver, Maris shared that excitement always outweighed fear. “There was no room for hesitation,” she said. “I had to prove myself. Being chosen as Gab Rivera was a blessing I don’t take lightly. It’s a dream come true.”

And now, as Incognito approaches its finale, Maris finds herself not only bidding farewell to a role that redefined her career but also to an experience that reshaped her personally.

“Making Incognito saved me,” she said, her voice quiet but steady. “You have no idea how much it did. I grew so much as an actor, but also as a person. Saying goodbye to Gab… that’s the hardest part.”

In Gabriela Rivera, Maris Racal found a mirror to her own strength—resilient, determined, and brave. And in Incognito, she didn’t just play a hero. She became one.
