The Philippine Army revealed on Wednesday there is no immediate spillover threat from local rebels linked to Islamic State terrorists, despite the heightened conflict in the Middle East.
Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala told DAILY TRIBUNE that the military remains proactive in its operations against these groups to maintain peace and security in the region.
“We have not received any threats from terrorist groups in Mindanao; however, the Philippine Army continues to pursue these groups to ensure peace and order in the area,” Dema-ala said. “Field commanders are conducting proactive security measures in their respective areas of operations.”
Extremist elements, including Daulah Islamiyah Factions, Abu Sayyaf, Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, and Ansar Khalifa Philippines, have been previously active in southern parts of the Philippines.
