The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the creation of additional 4,000 teaching positions under the second batch of Department of Education or DepEd's School Personnel Program for 2025.

Breaking it down, 1,658 slots are available for kindergarten/elementary, 391 for junior high school, and 1,951 for senior high school under the school year 2025-2026.

DBM announced the new teaching positions on Monday after approving an initial 16,000 teacher slots last month. Thus, DBM Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said the request of DepEd for a bigger teacher workforce has been fulfilled.

"The new teaching positions support the goal of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to enhance the learning conditions of Filipino students. Government agencies are working together in ensuring their environments are conducive to students' learning," she said.

In April, DBM had also approved 10,000 non-teaching positions to reduce administrative work for teachers.

DepEd said school administrators registered 27.6 million students in elementary levels for the current school year, higher by 300,000 compared to last year.

DBM said DepEd will mobilize P4.194 billion to hire new personnel.
