Christophe Sommereux is stepping into the spotlight on his own terms —not through acting like his famous parents, but through the power of music.
The son of veteran actors Christopher Roxas and Gladys Reyes, Christophe is forging a different artistic identity. While he grew up surrounded by scripts and spotlights, it was melody, not monologue, that called to him. Now officially part of ABS-CBN’s StarPop label, the rising artist is poised to become one of the most promising singer-songwriters of his generation.
“Music has always spoken to me in a way that acting never did,” Christophe shares.
At just 15, Christophe discovered his love for music — an affection that deepened into a calling. He recounts how simply listening to songs could transport him emotionally, sparking introspection and even changing the way he saw himself. For him, music is not just sound — it’s a journey of self-discovery.
“I don’t have to be performing it. I could just hear the words coming out of someone’s mouth over some instruments, and suddenly, iba na ‘yung nafi-feel ko. Suddenly, I’m on a different trajectory,” he explains.
That trajectory has now led him to a major milestone: the release of his self-titled debut extended play (EP) under StarPop, launched last May. One of the standout tracks, “Sine,” premiered its official music video on June 17, officially marking his debut in the industry.
But Christophe’s musical path wasn’t always smooth. He admits that his early compositions were raw and unpolished—songs that didn’t quite sound like songs yet.
“’Yung mga songs na sinusulat ko dati, very hilaw,” he recalls. “It didn’t sound like a proper song.”
Over the years, his experiences — both personal and emotional — have matured, and so has his artistry. He credits that growth with helping him find his voice.
“From hilaw to luto, I think I found my footing in the music industry,” he says, with a humble but quiet confidence.
Though he chose a different field, Christophe is quick to credit his parents, particularly his father, for introducing him to music in the first place. He describes his relationship with the craft as one filled with awe and endless possibilities.
“Music is so beautiful to me kasi napaka-complex niya,” he says. “You’re gonna find out what works, tapos itutuloy mo ‘yun hanggang mag-blossom siya into something bigger.”
With a debut EP that mirrors his growth and vulnerability, Christophe is ready to share that “something bigger” with the world.
In a heartfelt message to fans, he reflects:
“I’m incredibly humbled and honored to be able to share my passions with the world. I hope you all enjoy this one — it’s been a long time coming. Much love. This one’s for us.”
