Ninety individuals were rescued from a wooden-hulled vessel, M/L Len-Lyn, off the coast of Tawi-Tawi, the Western Mindanao Naval Command (WMNC) reported on 13 June.
Captain Hilarion Cecista of the WMNC said personnel aboard BRP General Mariano Alvarez (PS176) successfully carried out the rescue operation Thursday evening after receiving a distress call from a passenger.
The vessel, which had departed from Pangutaran Island in Sulu and was en route to an island municipality in Tawi-Tawi, encountered mechanical trouble at sea.
"Without delay, PS176 proceeded to the last known location of M/L Len-Lyn and subsequently located the vessel drifting near Languyan Island,” Cecista said.
The PS176 towed the vessel to the Chinese Pier in Bongao, where all 90 passengers were safely brought to shore.
