A 34-year-old woman was shot dead by riding-in-tandem suspects late Thursday afternoon in Barangay Marulas, Valenzuela City.
The victim, identified as “Jennelyn,” a public market worker and resident of the same barangay, was gunned down at the corner of F. Bautista Street and MacArthur Highway around 5:51 PM, according to the Valenzuela City Police.
CCTV footage showed two unidentified men aboard a black motorcycle approaching the woman before the backrider opened fire. The suspect then dismounted and fired more shots at close range, leaving Jennelyn lifeless on the pavement. The gunmen fled toward Barangay Malanday.
Jennelyn sustained at least four gunshot wounds, leading to her immediate death.
Police Major Randy Llanderal, chief public information officer of the Valenzuela City Police, said they are looking into the possible involvement of illegal drugs in connection with the killing.
"The victim was released in 2024 after serving time for drug-related charges. She also had frequent theft complaints lodged against her in Barangay Marulas," Llanderal said, adding that the suspect seemed determined to ensure Jennelyn's death by firing additional shots.
A relative of the victim said they had no knowledge of any death threats against her.
Authorities have identified persons of interest and are conducting CCTV backtracking to trace the motorcycle’s route. However, the plate number remains unreadable due to the low quality of footage.
Jennelyn’s live-in partner, currently under police custody for illegal gambling, has been informed of her death.
A dragnet operation is ongoing under the supervision of Valenzuela Police OIC Col. Relly Arnedo. Authorities urge the public to come forward with any information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
