Obiena finishes fifth in European return

Ernest John Obiena fell short of the podium after a fifth place finish in the FBK Games in Hengelo, Netherlands Tuesday.

Obiena, who recently won his third gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea last May, tallied 5.66 meters in his first competition back in Europe.

Paris Olympics silver medalist Christopher Nilsen of the United States won the tournament after going over the bar at 5.82m.

American pole vaulter KC Lightfoot got a silver medal after going over 5.74m while Keaton Daniel finished in third place with 5.66m.

Obiena will next compete in Norway for the Oslo Bislett Games on 12 June.
