Joshua Kahulugan’s stunning headdresses shine at Binibining Pilipinas parade

In a dazzling celebration of beauty, grace, and national pride, the 2025 Binibining Pilipinas Grand Parade of Beauties lit up Araneta City on 8 June. Amid the vibrant smiles and sparkling sashes of 36 candidates and reigning queens, one detail captivated onlookers: an explosion of floral artistry adorning each queen’s head. These stunning headdresses were crafted by visionary florist Joshua Kahulugan.

The collaboration came together at the last minute.

“Honestly, this opportunity was given to me just a week before the Parade of Beauties,” Joshua shared in an exclusive interview. “I had a hard time thinking of a concept for the headdress for this much-anticipated event.”

With limited time, Joshua turned to what he knew best — his language of flowers.

“With passion and perseverance as a florist, nothing is impossible,” he said. “I thought of something really close to my heart — a bouquet of flowers. You’ll notice that the headdress is filled with flowers, symbolizing women empowerment and femininity.”

Beyond their visual impact, Joshua designed the pieces with practicality in mind. Each headdress used lightweight artificial flowers and adjustable headbands, ensuring the Binibinis could move comfortably and gracefully.

“We wanted all the Binibinis and Reigning Queens to feel comfortable wearing them. They’re lightweight but beautifully crafted.”

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

“Fun fact: I received great feedback about the headdresses from the Binibinis and the Production Team,” Joshua added with a smile.

This project marked a milestone in Joshua’s growing career in pageant collaborations. He had previously served as a bouquet sponsor in the past edition, but this latest role was made possible through the support of designer Sir Louis Pangilinan, and Sir Patrick, who warmly welcomed him to the Binibining Pilipinas team.

Outside the world of floristry, Joshua also wears another hat — that of a teacher.

“Before I became a professional florist, I was also a teacher,” he revealed. “I’m still looking forward to teaching students in the near future because aside from flowers, I also love imparting knowledge to the youth. I believe that the youth are still our hope — and they have the power to change the world.”

With petals and purpose in full bloom, Joshua Kahulugan’s floral artistry added a meaningful, unforgettable layer to the Binibining Pilipinas 2025 celebration — where beauty and empowerment went hand in hand.
