Honoring Israel’s Independence

One of my favorite diplomats has done it again — showing us a good time! Ambassador Ilan Fluss of Israel invited me to celebrate his beloved country’s independence, and 77 years of freedom is surely worth the celebration.

The evening was a formal affair, attended by distinguished officials and VIPs, one of whom was our First Lady Liza Marcos. Along with lots of catching up, cocktails, we enjoyed the live talent that sang and did an interpretative dance to honor the day.

The most unique part of the event was the giant AI version of Ambassador Fluss himself on a big LED screen! You could speak into the mic and ask him questions, and the AI version on-screen would “speak” with a response, mimicking his voice. Years ago, this was just our imagination or in the movies. Technology is amazing! But, of course, nothing beats the real man himself!

Sadly, I won’t see much of Ambassador Fluss for now, as his term in the Philippines is ending. The event was also a reminder of the camaraderie between our countries and our shared growth — one that he has helped foster through the years. Thank you, Ambassador, and thanks for having me! Happy 77th Independence Day, Israel! Shalom and cheers!
