A new retail destination opened its doors in Ilocos Norte. SM City Laoag, marked SM Supermalls’ 88th branch nationwide and its first in the province. The mall’s launch doubles as a tribute to the culture, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit of the Ilocano people.

In partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), SM Supermalls launched “Treasures of Ilocos Norte,” a week-long trade fair running from 29 May to 4 June. Held inside the newly opened SM City Laoag, the exhibit puts the spotlight on the province’s finest micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

Named “Rimat Ti Amianan” or “Gems of the North,” the fair goes beyond promoting regional goods. It offers a deep dive into the heart of Ilocano craftsmanship and culinary heritage. Shoppers are welcomed by the savory aroma of bagnet, longganisa, and chicharon, along with native pastries that reflect the region’s rich culinary traditions.

Beyond food, the fair also features meticulously crafted handwoven textiles, artisan bags, and accessories that highlight Ilocano artistry and dedication to tradition. These items carry stories of generations and communities working to preserve their heritage through modern means.

The fair also champions local innovation. Through the One Town, One Product (OTOP) program, each town showcases distinct items developed with DTI support. The event features Halal-ready products, reflecting inclusivity in food production, and highlights Ilocos Norte’s growing coffee industry, which has gained national recognition.

Every product at “Treasures of Ilocos Norte” reflects a shared commitment to sustainable growth, cultural pride, and economic inclusion. The launch of SM City Laoag becomes more than just a mall opening. It becomes a platform where tradition meets enterprise and where Ilocanos celebrate the best of their province with the rest of the country.

The opening of SM City Laoag and the launch of Treasures of Ilocos Norte were more than just a celebration, it is a demonstration of SM Supermalls’ and DTI’s commitment to nation-building. Together, continously championing inclusive economic growth, empowered local businesses, and connected traditional industries with future-ready platforms.

The ceremonial launch took place last 30 May at 10 a.m., but the momentum for local growth began well before that. Families, entrepreneurs, students, and senior citizens were all invited to experience the richness of Ilocos Norte in a space designed to serve, connect, and inspire.

It was a chance to celebrate Ilocano excellence, support homegrown talent, and come together at SM City Laoag, where “Everything’s Here” and everything is proudly Ilocano.
