Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya joined the 38th anniversary celebration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Headquarters and Headquarters Service Command on 30 May 2025 at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo.
The ceremony, held at the AFP’s central command site in Quezon City, commemorated the 38 years since Camp Aguinaldo officially became the AFP’s General Headquarters in 1987. Originally known as Camp Murphy, the base has been a cornerstone of Philippine military history for over nine decades.
Brigadier General Arevalo, Commander of the Headquarters Service Command, emphasized this year’s anniversary theme: “Building a Solid Foundation for a World-Class Camp Aguinaldo through Innovation, Transformation, and Excellence.”
Ambassador Endo’s presence underscored the deepening partnership between Japan and the Philippines, especially in areas of defense cooperation and strategic infrastructure. He also highlighted Japan’s continued support for the ongoing Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), which includes a planned station at Camp Aguinaldo. Funded under Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA), the project aims to enhance mobility, accessibility, and sustainability in the capital region.
The AFP welcomed the development, citing its long-term benefits for both military personnel and the general public.
Ambassador Endo reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the Philippines in advancing peace, stability, and inclusive development through expanded infrastructure, defense, and people-to-people ties.
