The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said Friday that its Regional Office IV-A has issued a Show Cause Order to the operator of a public utility jeepney (PUJ) involved in a multiple-vehicle collision in Cainta, Rizal, that injured seven people on 28 May 2025.
LTFRB chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III said the action aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to prioritize road safety and accountability in public transportation.
CCTV footage showed the jeepney, bearing plate number DVR 757 and operated by Tanay Binangonan Cainta Sta. Lucia Transport Cooperative, crashing into several vehicles, including two multi-purpose vehicles and a motorcycle, at approximately 8 a.m.
“President Marcos has been clear in directing all transport agencies to uphold commuter safety and enforce strict accountability among operators and drivers,” Guadiz said. “This is our response. We are implementing that directive and holding those responsible to account.”
The operator is required to attend a hearing on 6 June 2025, at 2 p.m. at the LTFRB IV-A office in Lipa City and to submit a written explanation why its Certificate of Public Convenience (CPC) should not be suspended, revoked, or canceled for employing a reckless driver.
Guadiz stressed that employing reckless and irresponsible drivers will not be tolerated.
“Operators must ensure that their drivers are qualified, disciplined, and trained to protect, not endanger the public,” he added.
This enforcement action reflects the Department of Transportation’s ongoing efforts to follow through on the President’s directive and to restore public confidence in public transportation.
