The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is studying the possibility of allowing motorcycles to share bike lanes across Metro Manila during traffic buildups.
In a Palace briefing, MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group Director Atty. Victor Nuñez said the proposal is under discussion but has yet to undergo consultation with key stakeholders.
“We cannot say a final decision, since we haven’t met with the mobility and bikers groups,” he said.
Earlier this week, MMDA Chairman Don Artes said the agency is considering converting existing bike lanes along EDSA into shared lanes, especially with rehabilitation work on the major thoroughfare set to begin on June 13.
The EDSA rehabilitation project will require the temporary closure of one lane at a time and is expected to last for two years.
