President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the Philippines’ full support for ASEAN Community Vision 2045, a long-term roadmap for building a resilient, secure, and people-centered Southeast Asian region.
Speaking during the Plenary Session of the 46th ASEAN Summit, Marcos emphasized the need for greater unity among member states to keep the region governed by the rule of law, innovative, inclusive, and prosperous.
Marcos acknowledged the “growing complexity” of challenges that each ASEAN member faces in today’s interconnected world.
The President warned of increasing regional threats, including maritime and territorial disputes, rising trade barriers, and the escalating effects of climate change, all of which could disrupt economic stability and security.
Despite these challenges, Marcos emphasized that ASEAN’s collective efforts have helped member states steer through uncertainty and protect the region’s shared progress.
“By working together, strengthening our institutions, and building the resilience and capacities of our people, we can better navigate this increasingly uncertain future and turn challenges into opportunities for shared growth and stability,” he said.
The ASEAN Community Vision 2045 represents a high-level commitment from all member states to build a strong, dynamic, innovative, and people-first regional community. Marcos affirmed the Philippines’ commitment to this shared goal and vowed to be an active contributor in shaping it.
President Marcos also highlighted the vital role of the youth in shaping ASEAN’s future, pointing to the Philippines’ 30 million young people as a key example of ASEAN’s future leadership.
“We regard the youth as the heart of societal transformation — the key driver of ASEAN’s future and the next generation of leaders in governance, innovation, and creativity,” he said.
Beyond youth, Marcos underscored the importance of investing in ASEAN’s workforce, calling on fellow leaders to equip workers with the skills, protections, and opportunities they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
