Incoming Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has expressed his desire to reconcile with outgoing Mayor Honey Lacuna following his landslide victory in the recent May elections.
In an interview, Domagoso said he is prepared to extend a hand of friendship to Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo.
“I am reaching out, and of course, at the end of the day, they will be among the citizens of the city, and I am obligated to do service for them,” Domagoso said.
He stressed that reconciliation would be a positive start to his term, particularly with former allies, and stated that he does not hold grudges, as demonstrated in past elections.
“I did it many, many times before, and I did it to former President Joseph Estrada and also Mayor Lim. In fact, after beating him, I talked to him for advice on how to resolve and keep peace and order in the city,” Domagoso said.
The city mayor also acknowledged the challenges he has faced in life, stating that he has always confronted difficulties, but desires to govern the city without enemies.
“I just wanted to lead the city with no hatred among each other. I think we should come up with random kindness to one another. I prefer that we are all on good terms, and at the end of the day, we are all fellow Manileños,” he said.
Domagoso also stressed that he will not interfere in the city’s affairs during Lacuna’s remaining weeks in office, which end on 30 June and will allow her to complete her term.
He also expressed gratitude to Manila voters for his landslide victory and urged his supporters to remain calm and extend peace for the city’s sake.
