SIM card helps solve road victim’s identity

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A SIM card retrieved from a broken cellphone helped police identify a victim who was killed while crossing the national highway in Zone 3, Barangay Sinaloc, El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental Wednesday evening.

The victim who was not carrying any identification card was later on identified as Rudy Sabasahi Sedantes, 40 years old, a resident of Opol town. He was hit head on by a Honda Civic car driven by Joman Pardilla while crossing the national highway about 7 p.m.

Investigation showed that a barangay rescue team rushed the victim who sustained severe head injuries to a nearby hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

The victim was not carrying any ID card, only a broken cellphone was recovered from the scene of the accident.

Traffic investigators retrieved the SIM card of the cellphone and checked the registered owner of the number which revealed the identity of the owner and further verification on the Facebook account of the victim, his photo matched with the victim.

Further verification showed that the victim was a resident of Opol town and was a former barangay watchman.

The driver of the car surrendered to the police and now detained in the police lock-up cell pending the filing of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide charge.
