LUUK, Sulu — The military in the 2nd congressional district of Sulu has reported that the National and Local Elections in the seven towns were generally peaceful, with no election-related violent incidents reported.
Brig. Gen. Alaric Avelino Delos Santos, commander of the 1102nd Infantry “Ganarul” Brigade, yesterday said that no election-related incident was reported in the towns of Panamao, Panglima Estino, Kalingalan Caluang, Omar, Luuk, Pata and Banguingui.
Of the seven municipalities, three were categorized under the Orange category (areas of immediate concern), three under the Yellow category (areas of concern), and one under the Green category (area of no concern).
Despite initial security concerns, the elections concluded without major disruptions.
To effectively manage security, the brigade activated two task groups: Task Group “Pata” under Col. Wilfredo Borgonia, the 1102nd Brigade Executive Officer, and Task Group “Banguingui” under Col. Alex Gagula, the deputy brigade commander, Delos Santos said.
Delos Santos added, “We were fully aware of the challenges, especially in the Orange-category municipalities.
That is why we meticulously planned and deployed our forces strategically. The activation of dedicated task groups allowed us to respond quickly and effectively to any potential threat.
Delos Santos commended the efforts of the troops and partner agencies, saying, “This success is a product of teamwork, preparation, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding the people’s right to vote freely and safely.”
I commend the dedication of our soldiers, the cooperation of our law enforcement partners, and the support of the local communities.”
