Japan, Phl DICT eye stronger ICT ties

Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya paid a courtesy call on Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Rhoel Aguda on 13 May 2025, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the field of information and communications technology between Japan and the Philippines.

During the meeting, Ambassador Endo highlighted Japan’s ongoing public and private sector initiatives in ICT, including developments in Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN), cybersecurity, undersea cable infrastructure, and digital terrestrial broadcasting systems. He reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting the Philippines’ digital transformation efforts.

Secretary Aguda expressed appreciation for Japan’s contributions to the country’s ICT sector and welcomed further collaboration, particularly in support of the Philippines’ digitalization agenda.

Both officials affirmed their intention to work closely to enhance economic relations between the two countries through expanded ICT cooperation.
