President Ferdinand “Bongbong“ Marcos Jr. called on voters to back leaders with “integrity, compassion and genuine capacity to serve.”

But the plea collided head-on with deepening public frustration over unkept promises, and a coalition unraveling in real time.

“Even though our beliefs may differ, that is the spirit of democracy,” he said, delivering a civics lesson from a pulpit that once asked for unity, and now begged for accountability.

"But differences of opinion should not lead to chaos or intimidation. We are fighting for our future on the ballot. Not in the streets. Not in violence."

The presidency has delivered inflation, infighting, the ghost of a campaign promise: P20 rice

Pilot programs are perceived as PR smoke where drops in inflation obscenely fail tp reflect prices.

Now, the Duterte alliance is in tatters; what swept a formidable coalition to power in 2022 has unraveled into a dynastic cold war.

The feud isnt only personal; it’s policy-adjacent warfare scripted in prime time and paid for by the public.

Now a formal impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, citing alleged corruption and threats against the president, sits with the Senate.

Mr. Marcos has taken a sharper turn against China in the South China Sea, pivoting toward closer US ties a stark break from his predecessor’s pro-Beijing tilt and a flashpoint in the coming elections

Critics argue President's many contradictions reveal a dangerous double standard, welcoming accountability for others while shielding his own family from the historical reckoning they still owe Filipinos.

While Marcos Jr. allows international investigations into Duterte’s war on drugs, his family’s role in alleged martial-law abuses remains largely unexamined, leaving unresolved questions about acountability.
