The idea of working mothers often evokes admiration, but balancing a professional job while meeting the needs of their families entails a lot of sacrifices. This Mother’s Day, Meralco, the country’s largest power distributor, joins the world in honoring mothers who exude unconditional love and unwavering commitment to care for their families and the communities they serve.
As a Meralco Assistant Vice President and the new Head of Home & Microbiz — North Business Area, Alleni’s recent promotion is not solely defined by professional achievements, but is deeply intertwined with a role she cherishes above all else — being a mother.
For her, motherhood is an ever-evolving experience and an embodiment of unconditional love, emphasizing that it is also about nurturing a precious life, being their constant support system, and growing alongside them.
The most memorable moment for her that highlights her strong bond with her one and only son Paul was when he confided in her about his first heartbreak.
Alleni shared that his son showing vulnerability to her “signified immense trust and openness which is a foundation of a strong parent-child bond.”
She added that she jogs around UP Diliman with her son regularly — which for strengthens their bond and unlocks a deeper connection between parent and child, fostering open communication and understanding.
Alleni not just a mother to her family but to her colleagues as well. When asked about balancing motherhood and a demanding career at Meralco, she shared the many challenges that go along with it.
There are times when it feels like I’m juggling multiple roles. However, with the support of my family and the happy working environment at Meralco, I’ve learned to navigate these demands,” Alleni said.
She also sees similarities between nurturing her child and supporting her colleagues, explaining: “My two roles both involve guidance, encouragement, fostering growth, and creating a supportive environment where everyone feels valued”.
But for her Alleni — all these are purposive, as she encouraged others mothers in Meralco to continue empowering others and helping in energizing communities.
“Electricity provides energy and drives progress. As mothers, are the energizers of our families, providing support and motivation. In the workplace, our dedication and drive can be truly energizing for our teams and organizations,” Alleni closed.
For 13 years, Danessa Angeles worked as a relentless journalist — chasing sources, writing market moving stories, and meeting deadlines to share stories that matter to the public.
Her meaningful contributions to the profession were undeniable, but she knew what story matters most and decided to build an even more fulfilling life for her family as she joined the corporate world.
Armed with exemplary communication skills, she joined the Meralco Corporate Communications Office as part of the Public Relations team, while fully embracing her role as a mother to her fast growing firstborn.
This transition to the corporate world hasn’t diminished her dynamism, shared Danessa, but instead added another layer to her identity — that of a dedicated working mom.
For her, “motherhood is no joke” as she acknowledged the huge responsibility of planting the seeds for the future of her son Davin.
“The best part of being a mom for me right now is getting all the love from my four-year-old son. His hugs and kisses at the end of the day give me energy to fight another day,” Danessa shared, as she emphasized the comforting power of Davin’s affection.
When asked about her journey as a communications professional, she admitted that while the shift was accompanied by challenges, her new working setup allows her to set clearer boundaries and gives her an unmatched opportunity to thrive in both work and home life.
“It has helped me develop clearer boundaries and become more intentional with my time at work and with my family,” said Danessa.
She added that working at Meralco has been empowering particularly in terms of the support she receives as a working mother.
“Meralco supports my overall well-being, not only as a mother but as a whole person,” she said, citing the company’s accessible healthcare benefits, its free wellness facilities, and a culture of empathy in the workplace.
“My superiors and colleagues are very supportive and understanding when it comes to family-related events and unexpected emergencies, and I am very thankful for that,” Danessa added.
Balancing motherhood and a career may be a challenge for her but advises working moms to remind themselves of what matters in life.
“This is something I find hard to do myself, but to all the working moms, don’t be too hard on yourself. You’re doing just fine. Never forget that what you do is always for your family,” Danessa said.
Danessa and Alleni are just two of the many dedicated mothers working in Meralco who can navigate the demands of their career while giving unwavering care and love for their families. Their journey is a compelling reflections of mothers’ superhuman abilities to excel in their professions and build a nurturing home for their families.
