BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) announced Friday that farmers in Barangay Banban, Conner, Apayao, will now have easier access to markets with the opening of a newly completed 1.9-kilometer farm-to-market road.
The Banban–Bannauan–Guidegued Farm-to-Market Road was funded by the DAR through the Agrarian Reform Fund (ARF) with a budget of P29.85 million.
Construction on the road began 27 November 2024 and was completed 12 February 2025. A final inspection to ensure its quality and durability was conducted Wednesday.
Apayao Governor Elias C. Bulut Jr. and Representative Eleanor C. Bulut-Begtang supported the project and worked with the DAR to ensure its completion.
DAR Secretary Conrado M. Estrella III also backed the initiative, stating it is part of a broader effort to bring government services to underserved communities.
Arsenio Tumbali of the Banban Farmers Agriculture Cooperative said the completion of the road provides significant relief for farmers, making it easier to transport their produce to market.
The provincial government of Apayao anticipates that the improved road will also enhance access to health services, schools and other essential needs in the area.
