The leadership of the Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) continues to rave about Albert delos Santos following his sparkling performance in the men’s 67-kilogram event of the IWF World Youth and Junior Championships in Lima, Peru.

SWP president Monico Puentevella told DAILY TRIBUNE that after seeing Delos Santos win two gold medals over Yang Jinwen of China, he is optimistic that Delos Santos would become even better.

Delos Santos lifted 175kgs in the clean-and-jerk and a total lift of 309kgs for his two golds in the competitions.

“What you are witnessing in this competition is the future of Philippine weightlifting. We won 10 gold medals thanks to eight lifters,” Puentevella said.

“The most significant medals were won by Ian delos Santos as he defeated the lifter from China. That means when you beat lifters from China, we are ready to send lifters to the Los Angeles Olympics.”

More Filipino lifters flexed their muscles in this international event.

Jay-R Colonia delivered three medals and a silver in men 49kg after ruling the clean-and-jerk with 121kg, earned a silver in snatch with 94kg, then secured his second gold in total with 215kgs.

Alexsandra Ann Diaz, niece of Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz, also grabbed three medals with a gold in the snatch with 70kgs, a bronze in clean and jerk with 82kgs, and another gold in the total lift of 152kgs in the youth women 45kg category.
