What was supposed to be a festive celebration at the Lapu-Lapu Festival turned into a heartbreaking scene of chaos and loss, deeply affecting Filipino communities in Canada and around the world.
In their official statement, Kaunlad Pinoy expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and called for unity, compassion and faith during this time of mourning.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the victims of the tragedy at the Lapu-Lapu Festival in Vancouver,” the group said in Filipino.
“What began as a joyful celebration ended in an unimaginable tragedy brought about by the cruelty of one person.”
Despite the horror of the incident, Kaunlad Pinoy encouraged Filipinos to stay resilient, placing their hope in justice and the strength of the community.
“In the midst of sorrow, Kaunlad Pinoy calls on fellow Filipinos not to lose hope that justice will be served for those who lost their lives and those who were injured,” they said.
“We believe in the resilience of the Filipino spirit and assure you that we are ready to help in any way we can.”
The group concluded their message with a prayer for the victims and their loved ones.
