Actor Wendell Ramos has officially withdrawn from his bid to run for councilor in Manila’s 4th District.
The announcement was made through a Facebook post on 27 April 2025, where he cited work and family commitments as the main reasons for his decision to step back from politics.
“After careful consideration and heartfelt discussions with my family, manager, and network, I have made the difficult decision to discontinue my campaign due to prior work commitments and family matters,” Wendell shared.
He also clarified that he had filed his withdrawal of candidacy with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as early as 31 January 2025.
Wendell, who filed his certificate of candidacy on 5 October 2024, initially joined the political party of Sam Versoza, who is running for mayor of Manila.
In his post, Wendell expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his brief political journey.
“I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported me, welcomed me, and believed in my programs even before I filed my withdrawal. Your trust and encouragement mean more than words can express. Thank you for your understanding and continued support,” he wrote.
In a previous interview, Ramos revealed his motivation to help his constituents in Manila.
"At my age right now, okay naman na rin naman ako and hindi naman masama na mag-level up and maging way to extend my charitable, you may not know baka bukas wala ka na sa mundong ito, pero at least you've done your part, hindi lang ikaw ang nag received, ikaw rin ang nag-abot ng tulon sa tao," he said.
("At my age, I’m doing okay, and it’s not bad to level up and find another way to extend charitable acts. You never know — tomorrow you might no longer be here — but at least you’ve done your part. You weren’t just on the receiving end; you also reached out and helped others.")
