Singer-songwriter JC Regino recently sat down for an emotional guest appearance on the daily afternoon talk show Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, where he opened up about life, music, and carrying on the legacy of his late father, OPM icon April Boy Regino.
April Boy, beloved for his heartfelt songs and signature cap-wearing image, passed away in 2020 after battling several medical conditions, including chronic kidney disease and acute respiratory failure. His absence left a deep void in JC’s life—both personally and professionally.
“Even now that I’m able to continue our dream of returning to music, it still feels incomplete. It feels so lacking,” JC admitted, his voice breaking with emotion. “When I’m onstage performing, I sometimes find myself glancing to my right or left, expecting him to be there. We used to share the stage together. Now, it’s just me. Even when good opportunities come, like being signed by GMA, I can’t help but wish he was here to see it.”
Despite the pain of his father’s absence, JC remains deeply grateful for the values and knowledge April Boy imparted to him.
“Thank you so much to my dad,” he said tearfully. “Even though he’s no longer here, his name lives on through me. I know he’s still guiding me. Thank you, Daddy, for raising me the way you did.”
In every note he sings and every stage he steps onto, JC is keeping his father’s spirit alive.
