President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently commended the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination (PFV) for its outstanding work in promoting immunization across the country.
In a message read by former Health Undersecretary Dr. Enrique A. Tayag, Marcos highlighted the foundation’s dedication to improving public health without seeking the spotlight.
“PFV has done what many promise and few deliver. They’ve worked quietly and tirelessly to strengthen our country’s health system,” said Marcos, noting that the organization’s efforts go beyond simple vaccination — they build trust and ensure long-term health protection.
Tayag, who is both an advisor and the chair of PFV’s 25th anniversary committee, emphasized the foundation’s commitment, especially in rural areas, where they’ve turned classrooms into clinics to ensure no one is left behind in the fight for public health.
“Public health is not a one-time event; it’s a discipline practiced daily,” he added, acknowledging PFV’s significant role in the country’s health infrastructure.
The PFV, recognized by the World Health Organization, advocates for vaccination as a vital tool for disease prevention, especially for children and infants. Marcos noted that vaccination does more than protect — it empowers families, allowing parents to work without fear and ensuring children grow up healthy.
In celebration of their milestone, the PFV recognized several individuals with the “Vaccine Heroes Award” for their exceptional contributions to vaccination advocacy. Among the awardees were Dr. Benito Atienza, Dr. Remedios F. Coronel, Dr. Alicia B. Tamesis, and others, including the late journalist Sheila Crisostomo, whose award was received by her mother.
Marcos wrapped up his remarks by urging everyone to continue serving and protecting the dignity of every Filipino, emphasizing the importance of working together to build a healthier future.
