The Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) strongly condemned the alleged threats made by La Paz, Abra Mayor Joseph "JB" Bernos against Romy Gonzales, a provincial correspondent of DZRH, following the journalist’s report on a recent shooting incident.

According to MBC, Gonzales had covered and reported on a violent encounter between armed police personnel and a barangay official that occurred on April 21 in Barangay Budac, Tayum, Abra. The report was posted across DZRH’s multimedia platforms.

Following the publication, Gonzales received an alarming message from Mayor Bernos. The mayor reportedly called Gonzales multiple times, hurled profanities at him, and issued verbal threats, warning that he would "get back at him."

In response, MBC Media Group-DZRH issued a firm statement denouncing the incident and standing by their reporter.
