BAGUIO CITY – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has reported that the heat index in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, is expected to reach as high as 44°C on 23 April 2025.

According to PAGASA’s Northern Luzon Regional Services Division, the same heat index was recorded in both Tuguegarao City and Aparri, Cagayan, on 22 April. These areas, along with Dagupan City in Pangasinan, are currently experiencing extreme heat across North Luzon.

The weather bureau is advising the public to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, particularly between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. PAGASA noted that a heat index at this level falls under the “danger” category, which may lead to heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke.

PAGASA also explained that the hot and dry weather is being caused by easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, which are currently affecting Cagayan and nearby provinces. No significant rainfall is expected, except for possible localized thunderstorms that may bring brief rain showers.
