‘Enchella’ era: ENHYPEN makes history with Coachella debut

The new powerhouse of K-pop, ENHYPEN, just had its ultimate main character moment at this year’s Coachella.

During its maiden performance at the renowned music festival on 12 April, the septet — Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki — lit up the desert with incredible voices, graphics and vibes.

In a recent Billboard Korea cover interview, leader Jungwon called it “the culmination of everything we’ve been working toward.”

The energy was crazy from the moment ENHYPEN took the stage. Their set list, which included the crowd-hyping, genre-hopping songs “Sweet Venom,” “Brought the Heat Back” and the energetic opener “Blockbuster,” seemed like a rollercoaster. The boys demonstrated why they are one of the most accomplished K-pop acts of their generation.

They understood the assignment fashion-wise, too. The boys rocked custom Prada inspired by full-on cowboycore — think oversized jeans, leather belts, rhinestone drama and silk neckerchiefs. With opulent clothing that exuded Coachella style and featured pearl buttons, leather collars and vintage denim elements, each member had their unique flair.

While moodier tracks like “Moonstruck,” “Daydream” and “XO (Only if you say yes)” brought emotional depth that hit right in the feels, fan favorites like “Drunk-Dazed,” “Blessed-Cursed,” “ParanoXXX Invasion” and “Future Perfect (Pass the MIC)” kept the intensity high.

But hold on, there’s more. As the encouraging queen that she is, BLACKPINK’s Lisa was seen in the crowd dancing to ENHYPEN’s performance. Online, her unexpected arrival drove ENGENES into a complete meltdown. Fans expressed their love and shock, with the hashtag #Enchella swiftly beginning to trend on X (previously Twitter).

As if their Coachella takeover wasn’t enough, ENHYPEN also made their US television debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! singing their brand-new English single, “Loose.” The song is a cheerful pop hit that is radio-ready and demonstrates the group’s desire to dominate the world music scene.

The boys went live on Weverse after Coachella to thank their fans and casually reveal another surprise: their new EP will be out on 5 June. With 5.45 million albums sold in 2024, yes, the third-highest number for any K-pop group, ENHYPEN is gaining incredible traction.
