University of Perpetual Help System Dalta will light up a bonfire to celebrate its first basketball title in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
No less than Perpetual president Dr. Anthony Tamayo, team manager and vice president for sports Anton Tamayo and head coach Joph Cleofas are expected to be in attendance to lead the revelry that is set inside the school’s campus in Las Piñas City.
Bannered by Most Valuable Player Lebron Jhames Daep, the Junior Altas made history when they awarded the school its first ever basketball title since joining the country’s oldest collegiate league in 1984.
After posting a 100-96 win over La Salle Green Hills in Game 1, Perpetual suffered a 91-95 setback in Game 2 to set the stage for a sudden-death encounter.
But the Junior Altas refused to melt under pressure with Mythical Team member Jan Roluna, Most Improved Player Jericho Cristino, JD Pagulayan and Icee Callangan supporting Daep en route to a lopsided 101-67 victory in Game 3.
Perpetual coach Olsen Racela said Pagulayan, Callangan, Cristino, Kelsey Baldoria, and Aries Borja will be back to power the seniors squad in Season 101 next year.
“This is a huge development for the whole Perpetual community,” Racela said, adding that Daep and Roluna, on the other hand, have yet to formally commit.
“We’ve always wanted continuity between our high school and college programs, most especially with the success of our juniors team. I’m really looking forward to guiding and molding these young men so that they can realize their full potential on and off the basketball court.”
The Altas will start their training on 1 May.
