Fresh off their hard-fought championship in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference, Petro Gazz is wasting no time as they step into a new challenge by representing the country in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League.
It will be the Angels’ first time tangling with foreign opposition and they’re bringing with them not just momentum from their recent title win, but also a powerhouse lineup featuring some of the league’s top performers.
Leading the charge is back-to-back All-Filipino Conference Most Valuable Player (MVP) Brooke Van Sickle, whose all-around brilliance was the key in the team’s incredible run.
The 27-year-old Filipino-American winger carried a heavy scoring load throughout the grueling five-month conference, finishing with 349 points, 30 blocks, and a league-high 23 service aces.
More than just an offensive weapon, Van Sickle also proved her worth on defense, ranking among the league’s best in both reception and digs.
After finally clinching a long-awaited title, she now gears up for her first stint on the international stage.
Backing her up is another key figure in Petro Gazz’s historic title run, fellow Filipino-American star MJ Phillips.
The middle blocker delivered when it mattered most, averaging 15.33 points in the finals and sealing the Angels’ title-clinching win.
The Angels are not short on firepower, either. Veterans Myla Pablo, Jonah Sabete and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas will bring their seasoned offensive prowess, while defensive anchors Remy Palma, Joy Dacoron and Ranya Musa shore up the net defense.
Adding more firepower to the squad is American spiker Gia Day, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter from Michigan.
The 26-year-old has played professionally in six countries across Asia, Europe, and North America, and brings a wealth of international experience to Petro Gazz’s campaign.
Day, known for her stint alongside Indonesian standout Megawati Hangestri Pertiwi and for earning top honors in Korea’s top-tier league, is expected to give the Angels a much-needed edge as they take on the best club teams across Asia.
With reinforcements Van Sickle, Phillips, and Day leading the charge, Petro Gazz looks ready to represent the Philippines with pride and show that their PVL success can translate on the international stage.
