A profound period of mourning has been shared by Janine Gutierrez following the passing of both her grandmothers just days apart.
First to pass was Asia’s Queen of Songs, Pilita Corrales, who died on 12 April 2025, at the age of 87. She was the mother of Ramon Christopher “Monching” Gutierrez, Janine’s father.
Four days later, on 16 April, National Artist and Superstar Nora Aunor passed away at the age of 71. She was the adoptive mother of Lotlot de Leon, Janine’s mother.
On 17 April, Janine formally shared the news of Nora’s passing—whom she fondly called “Mama Guy”—through an emotional post on Instagram.
“With sorrowful hearts, we share the passing of our grandmother, Mama Guy. A treasure to our family, but truly always more the people’s than ours. She had a life of giving her immeasurable love to everyone she touched, whether on screen, through music, or in person.”
Gratitude was extended by Janine for the overwhelming messages of sympathy and support received by their family. She also asked for continued prayers, particularly for her mother Lotlot and Nora’s children.
“Please keep our family in your prayers, especially Mama, Uncle Ian, Ate Matet, Kuya Kiko, and Ken, as we say goodbye. We find comfort in knowing she, the one and only Superstar, will be forever loved.”
Earlier, Janine also honored her grandmother Pilita through another heartfelt Instagram post on 12 April.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Mami and Mamita, Pilita Corrales. Pilita touched the lives of many, not only with her songs but also with her kindness and generosity. She will be remembered for her contributions to the entertainment industry, but most of all, for her love of life and family.”
Both Pilita Corrales and Nora Aunor are being laid in wake at the Heritage Memorial Chapels in Taguig City, where friends, family, and fans have been paying their final respects.
